EN ISO12312-1 Sunglasses Test Standard
The old standard for CE certification of sunglasses is EN1836 (EN 1836:2005+A1:2007 Personal eye-equipment - Sunglasses and sunglare filters for general use and filters for direct observation of the sun). The new two regulations EN ISO 12311:2013 "Personal protective equipment - Testing of sunglasses and related devices" and EN ISO 12312-1:2013 "Eye and face protection - Sunglasses and related goggles - Part 1" Commonly Used Sunglasses" has some new technical updates, mainly including the following three points:
1. Make some changes to the classification of sunglasses, and divide them into five categories from 0 to 4 according to the color of the lens from light to dark;
2. For the low firmness of the filter, tests of frame deformation and filter durability have been added, including: impact resistance of the filter, durability of sunglasses, perspiration resistance, abrasion resistance, etc.
3. Sunglasses exported to the EU require mandatory CE certification.
EN ISO 12312-1:2013+A1:2015 test items are as follows:
- Filter material and surface quality
- Transmittance
- Wide angle scattering
- Refractive power
- Local variations in refractive power
- Minimum robustness of filters
- Frame deformation and retention of filters
- Resistance to solar radiation
- Resistance to ignition
- Coverage area
- Nickel release
- Information and labelling
