Lens coating and function

Sunglasses with coated lenses are popular among consumers in recent years because of their bright colors. Many Acetate Sunglasses, Metal Sunglasses, Titanium Sunglasses, and Wood Sunglasses There are often coated lenses on the lens.

What coatings are the lenses coated with? What function do these layers have? Let's find out in detail.
Lens film layer 1: anti-reflection film. The anti-reflection coating is mainly used to reduce the reflected light on the surface of the lens and is coated on the surface of the lens. It is hard and brittle, and it is the basic film layer that needs to be coated on the lens base. The anti-reflection coating can make the incident light interfere with and destruct the reflected light on the upper and lower surfaces of the coating, reduce or even eliminate the reflected light, increase the light transmittance, improve the clarity of the object, reduce the occurrence of glare, enhance the contrast of the image and reduce the blur in the photo. The halo phenomenon makes the vision clear, comfortable, and beautiful. Usually, the surface of the lens is coated with a multi-layer anti-reflection film to minimize the adverse effects of reflected light.
Lens film layer 2: add hard film. Also called strengthening film. In the daily use of glasses, whether it is glass lenses or resin lenses, friction with other substances will inevitably occur, causing wear of the lenses and leaving scratches on the surface. Shallow and fine scratches are not easy to be noticed by the wearer of glasses, but they will affect vision. Adding a hard film can improve the surface hardness of the resin lens, enhance its scratch resistance, and prolong its service life. Commonly used on C39 lenses and nylon lenses.
Lens film layer 3: antifouling film. While the anti-reflection coating reduces the adverse effects of reflected light on the surface of the lens, it also introduces another problem. Research under a transmission electron microscope shows that the cross-section of the anti-reflection coating has a microporous structure with large intermolecular gaps, and oil stains are easily deposited on the anti-reflection coating. Therefore, in the case of ensuring the effectiveness of the anti-reflection film, in order to prevent the surface of the lens from being contaminated with dust and oil and to facilitate the cleaning of the lens, a very thin layer of antifouling film is coated on the surface of the lens. The composition of the antifouling film is an organosilicon compound, which has small molecular particles and small molecular gaps, which makes the surface of the lens more smooth and has the effect of antifouling.
Lens film layer 4: anti-fog film. People who are short-sighted know the scene of drinking coffee in winter, the lens is full of fog, which affects the vision. The anti-fog film is to reduce the occurrence of this phenomenon. The film layer makes water vapor very easy to infiltrate. It can infiltrate and diffuse on the surface of the lens before the water vapor forms water droplets, forming a transparent and thin water film, which will no longer affect the incident light. Scattering of light prevents blurred vision. At the same time, the anti-fog film also has a certain self-cleaning and anti-fouling effect: the thin water film can cut off the combination between dirt and the surface of the lens, and the washing of water such as rain can produce an automatic cleaning effect.

Lens film layer 5: anti-radiation film. Now that electronic products are flooding, people often face computers and mobile phones, and their eyes are prone to fatigue. The anti-radiation film is to evaporate a certain metal conductive material film on the surface of the lens, so that it can be transformed from an insulator into a certain degree of an electrical conductor, and has the ability to shield electromagnetic radiation. The ability to alleviate the flickering and glare of the computer screen to a certain extent. It is especially suitable for computer workers, those who watch TV for a long time, and those who play video games so that the vision is clear and natural, and it can effectively prevent harmful light from damaging the eyes.
Lens film layer 6: waterproof film. The waterproof film is a film layer that makes the surface of the lens hydrophobic. Water droplets are difficult to stay on the surface of the lens and fall off automatically, which has a waterproof effect. The principle is the same as the rolling of water droplets on lotus leaves. At the same time, the waterproof film makes it difficult for oil stains to adhere to the surface of the lens and also has a certain antifouling effect. Waterproof membranes are usually used on mid-to-high-end sunglass lenses. Our sheet metal sunglasses, metal sunglasses, titanium sunglasses, etc. will have a waterproof film.
Lens film layer 7: oil-proof film. The anti-oil film is a film layer that makes the surface of the lens oleophobic. It is difficult for oil to stay on the surface of the lens and it will fall off automatically, or it can be cleaned with a light wipe with a lens cloth. We usually use a water-based black pen to test whether the lens has an oil-proof function. Draw a few strokes on the surface of the lens that has no anti-proof function. The link will automatically gather into water droplets, rinse with water, or wipe it with a lens cloth. On the contrary, lenses without oil-proof function are difficult to wipe clean. The oil-proof film is usually used on middle and high-end sunglass lenses. Our sheet metal sunglasses, metal sunglasses, titanium sunglasses, etc. will have a waterproof film.
Lens film layer 8: Polarizing film. Light waves are transverse waves and are polarized. In general, both reflected light and refracted light are partially polarized light. The reflected light on the water surface, asphalt road, painted surface, and other object surfaces has been partially polarized to produce glare, which increases the brightness, weakens the color saturation, and blurs the outline of the object, making the eyes uncomfortable and prone to visual fatigue. The polarizing film can polarize the light, which can eliminate or weaken the adverse effects caused by the reflection or bright spots on the surface of the object so that the surrounding scenery looks clear and not dazzling. It is very suitable for drivers and outdoor workers. The principle and function of polarizing film and polarizing film are the same.
Lens film layer 9: multi-layer composite film. For resin lenses, the ideal surface coating treatment should be a multi-layer composite film including hard coating, multi-layer anti-reflection film, and top film. The multi-layer composite film refers to the lens with more layers and more complete functions. The usual composite film is first coated with a hard film, then coated with an anti-reflection film, and then coated with a multi-functional film such as a top film and a radiation protection film. To improve the practicability and functionality of the lens. The multi-layer composite film does not refer to a certain film but refers to a pair of spectacle lenses with a multi-functional film layer, such as an oil-proof and waterproof film on the same pair of lenses, plus a hard film, etc.
